Center for Design
The Center for Design is Northeastern University's interdisciplinary design research hub for collaborating and sharing knowledge with the great design community through ongoing projects and events. Some current and previous project collaborators include the Knox Clinic, City of Boston Participatory Budgeting Office, Politechno di Milano, and University of Michigan.
As a part of my co-op, I was tasked with creating posters, consistent with the center's brand identity, to present a collection of our research projects at an undergraduate research fair. The process included ideating poster templates, sourcing and curing relevant images and copy, and sending the final products to print. It was important to communicate with my supervisor and key project stakeholders for feedback at each stage and approval of the final designs.

Process
Initial Sketches
After discussing the project goals and looking at versions from previous years, I generated a variety of poster styles and layouts to choose what elements worked best and got feedback from my supervisor. Compared to previous iterations, the new posters gave more emphasis to the body text and balanced the copy with the images, so students could easily read either type of information.
Poster Templates
Using sample content and incorporating the center's brand guidelines, I turned the paper sketches into posters in InDesign. The consensus was using 2 similar, but still unique templates would create visual variety when viewing the whole display. We did not continue with the template on the right because the flow of information was not intuitive to people who viewed it and the QR code looked out of place because it was surrounded by a lot of white space.
